Spiral galaxy M77, a Seyfert galaxy of type Sb, was photographed here by Martin Germano with his 14.5-inch f/5 Newtonian (stopped to 12-inch f/6). It is a 45-minute exposure on hypered Kodak Tech Pan 2415 film, created in September 2001. The center of this Seyfert galaxy is so bright that it was overexposed in just 45 minutes! Simultaneously, suggestions of the outer regions indicate that longer exposures would allow to trace them further outward.

Beautiful CCD image of spiral galaxy M77 by Steve Bell. He took this image in November 2000 from a SW suburb of Denver, CO, under conditions suffering somewhat from light pollution and below-average seeing, with his 16-inch f/4.7 Newtonian telescope, working at f/5.4, and SBIG ST-8E CCD camera. This is a single self-guided 60-min exposure; Steve used a Lumicon Deep-Sky filter, mounted before a 2" TeleVue coma corrector.
